Introduction to make do and mend
Due to covid19 component 2 was pushed back and because of that we are now doing Make Do make mend.In 1943 make do mend was a pamphlet issued by the British ministry of information in midst of WWII.It was intended to provide housewives with useful tips on how to be both frugal and stylish in times of harsh rationing. With its thrifty design ideas and advice on reusing old clothing, the pamphlet was an indispensable guide for households. Readers were advised to create pretty ‘decorative patches’ to cover holes in warn garments; unpick old jumpers to re-knit chic alternatives; turn men’s clothes into women’s; as well as darn, alter and protect against the ‘moth menace’.

My 1st collages
Hannah Höch
W.W.W:In my collages I explored the different types of materials, coulors and objects I could use to create something abstract and unusual.
E.B.I:If I could change or improve something with my collages I would change the colours because I have overused yellow.

.Why might Höch have chosen to use newspapers as a source of imagery rather than drawing or painting her subjects? : I think Hanna Hoch chose newspapers as a source of imagery because using a newspaper is a more creative way of putting together a collage rather than ur traditional painting or drawing, it also brings a vivid way of seeing a pice of art being created by daily used materials.
.What skills do you need to be able to make a successful collage? : To be able to make a successful collage you some certain skills. For example having a wide imagination, this will help with coming up with new and inventive ideas to make a good collage; another example is having no limits if u have a collage and maybe you think oh this seems like enough, then try to think of way to improve and add onto it. .What might have been the barriers for a woman trying to make their way in the art world of the early twentieth century? : Art has been a longly dominated by male artists, a large amount of things prevented woman achieving there artistic prominence. The thing that stoped this was that until the 19 century woman and were not allowed to go to schools or academies which didn't allow for them to learn and practice art.4

Marcel Duchamp and the 'ready made'
1.Marcel Duchamp's picture 'L.H.O.O.Q.' uses a postcard preproduction of Leonardo da Vinci's 'mona Lisa'.Describe Leonardo's painting and explain why it's so famous. The Mona Lisa is famous because the result of many chance circumstances combined with the painting's inherent appeal. The painting was once stolen by Vincenzo Peruggia, the famous art work wasn't recovered till two years later in 1913.

Sharon Walters is a London based artist who creates hand assembled collages celebrating black woman.Sharon Walters talks a lot about how races should be equal and how much this really matters in our world.Walter's work consists of portraits It would appear that she tends to only work with ripped up paper although, it seems to me that, in some of her photographs.
Appropriation of an image at home
- Why did you choose that particular image?I really liked the peacefulness of the image, and how the setting is very abstract.
- What did you want to change within the image?I didn"t really want to change the image too much, I wanted to explore what i could add to it, adding a more personalised feel.
- How did you make the changes?I added up a number of different faces that i cut out from a couple news papers and placed them into places where i think they looked strange and abstract
- How does the image look now after you have adapted it? I feel like it has more character than it did before, however I think the image would look better without the pen lines.
Hannah Höch and Romare Bearden
In Romare Beardens collage the first thing that draws my attention is the three faces, it seems like they have been placed in a position to make it look like they are making eye contact which is a bit unseteling. The backround looks to be a flat judging by the backround in the window, there seems to be a black on grey colour scheme making it feel dull. The use of cut outs seems to be used from a drawing of some sort or even another pieace of art work.
Hannah Höch's collage is a bit more bright and energetic because of the slight colour in the backround. The collage looks to be made out of lots photographs of people stuck together. Usage of diffrent faces makes it more exciting than Romare Beardens collage in my opinion, The type of photographs used by Hannah Höch seem to be old because they are in black and white.Hannah Höch and Romare Beardens titles of there collages "Lebensbild" and "Evening 9:10" make sense. Iunderstand the concept of Romare Beardens collage and calling it evening and i think is suits.Lebensbild in english means life picture which opens a better understanding of the image. The collage is a photo book of her life composed into one large collage.

Collage Evaluation /Assesment
Here are my collages that i worked on and improved on over the couple last weeks, we had recived a selection of magazines and cut and use the topic make do med, which means that what we get is what we work with.As you can see i started off with constructing and composing how i want the collage to look.I went with the theme of buildings and people, i chose these specific cutouts because of the contrast between the vibrant and dull colours.During the proses of creating the collage encountered a few problems, e.g creating stands for the individual cutouts.Other than that Iam really pleased with the final outcome.
Behind Bars/Prison photography
Within this project we are looking at photography behind bars. We are looking at how there may be restrictions in prison in taking photographs nad how this is similar to the current lockdown that we are experiencing. The similar thing is that you don't have that much freedom in either of them. Both prisoners and ourselves are enclosed in a building of some sorts. There could be less opportunities to take photographs of, as there are less things to look at. My first thought of this is that It is a useful way to clear the minds of inmates that are in prison. This is also a good way to give inmates doors or an idea of what to do when the leave prison. However another thing that was on my mind with this was how safe is it to work with in mates as it could be dangerous to even be near a prison.
Well this is because they want to give the prisoners a chance to change there way or to spread a creative atmosphere to reduce the tension that is most likely to be in that type of environment. The benefits can lead to opening doors for when they leave prison, possibly becoming an artist or a photographer. As well as this Photography could help the inmates clear their minds from all the hate and violence that could be within them The workshop leaders could be frightened by the inmates and the idea of even being near a inmate is a dangerous choice.
The stress of helping inmates can be a lot to handle, the helper could be intimidated by the prisoners.
The similarities are not so big, the relation would be that in both situations you cannot go see your friends or family if you don't live with them. Also the fact that a person could feel weak or uneasy not being in a normal circumstances. This can help inmates with mental health and clear out any negative ideas or anything crime related. It can also help with giving the inmates something to look towards to. There is not a large amount of space to enable creativity or to take pictures. But there is always a way too try.Another reason is that other inmates in the prison could cause overall problems making it very hard to take photographs. Good examples could consist of violence towards the teacher or inmates frustration could lead to violence. However i think that this unlikely to happen because inmates would understand that they are getting help.

Genre Photography
The main genres of photography includes abstraction, fashion, sport and landscape.I think the reason for this is because they are accepted by society. My favourite genre is abstraction this is because of the wide range of possibilities that I can experiment with. For example with sport photography you have to focus on one particular objective, however with abstract you have a nearly endless cycle of options.Another key reason why i like abstract is due to the fact that it could be taking in as another genre because really abstract is built up from many diffrent layers.
I did not really enjoy the examples of the landscape images because of the black and white blandness and the simplicity of the landscape. However its understandable because they are in a prison and it could be hard to find creative composition for an image.

Evaluation
In the lesson we were given a task of taking 20 photographs from 20 chosen topics, we had to make them ours and add a bit off shazam to make them more interesting. My personal favourite topics where taking a photo of a plant growing somewhere where its not suposed to and a crack in a floor. In some areas this was a bit challange eg.the topics like taking a photo of your celling and taking a photo of a smile
6.These photographs are mainly portrait because of the close ups that are the main focus throughout. They are mostly wide because of the wide profile that is given to the viewer
7.A infinity backdrop is used to create a stage with a plain, single-colour backround. the defining feature of an infinity curve is a lack of angles.

William Eggleston
William Eggleston is an American photographer. He is widely known for his bright photographs.William Egglestons subject matter are American muscle cars , garages and petrol stations. In the early 1970s Eggleston found out that printing with a dye-transfer process creates a rich and bright filter to the photographs he was taking which is why most of his photographs are very vivid. The most interesting thing about his work is the compositions he creates with the unique cars. The photos are mainly quiet wide and have a variety of things happening in them which is something that catches the eye.
Final Outcome
for the final outcome project i took photographs in diffrent unique areas around London.I them changed their original appearances in photoshop. I increased the hue, mdepth of field ,colour, saturation ,black point and white light to create an eye catching effect
